CCF Heart Kids

These are some of the kids that inspire us to work harder everyday. Read their stories and join us in the fight against pediatric cardiomyopathy – the number one cause of heart transplants and sudden cardiac arrest in the young.

Aria, age 4
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)

Aria loves princesses and playing dress up. She hopes to be Miss America when she grows up. Aria was born premature at 36 weeks with an irregular heart rate and then diagnosed with HCM shortly afterwards. Although Aria can no longer play sports, she takes tap and ballet lessons after pre-school.

Malea, age 10
Dilated Cardioyopathy (DCM)

Malea’s love of singing makes her a big fan of One Direction. At 9 years old, she started feeling shortness of breath and a rapid heart rate. She was placed on the transplant list on May 12, 2015 and received her new heart in July. Now, she is looking forward to riding her first rollercoaster this summer.

Harper, age 22 months
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)

Blowing bubbles, playing with her brother and running in the sprinklers always makes Harper happy. She was diagnosed with HCM a year ago. After rounds of genetic testing, her family still do not know the cause of her cardiomyopathy. Doctors believe she has a sporadic genetic mutation, and she is the first in her family to have the disease.

Jay, age 12
Dilated Cardioyopathy (DCM)

Jay enjoyed watching movies and playing video games in his spare time. Diagnosed with DCM at 9 days old, he suffered a stroke that left him developmentally delayed. Jay always had a bright smile, even with his multiple medications, a feeding tube and implantable defibrillator. Sadly, we lost Jay two years ago to cardiomyopathy.
